Keep'n It Real
| OK... I'm coming out of the closet. I love reality TV. Not ALL reality TV... I don't watch Big Brother, The Bachelor or any of those shows that are based on smut, sex or romance. But I do love to watch American Idol, The Biggest Loser and the king of all reality shows, Survivor. Some people say that these type of shows are not real entertainment. But just because the people are not professional actors doesn't mean it's not fun to watch. Hey!.. I'm entertained, and that's all that matters to me. Lately there seems to be some changes happening on Television. Shows like the "West Wing" are finally being cancelled. I think it's because people are sick and tired of supporting shows whose actors or fictional story lines presume to educate the rest of us and sway our political opinion. Even a new show named "The book of Daniel" died on the vine partly because the plot was so controversial that many stations refused to even air it. NBC seems to be the worst offender in my opinion. Their "Law and Order" series has taken many pot-shots at the current administration by spinning their stories to protest such politically charged issues as the Patriot Act and alleged torture at Gitmo. The NBC show "Crossing Jordan" just aired an episode about a corruption in the military and faulty body armor being issued to our troops. I don't know if anyone will take this fictional story line as fact, but it certainly doesn't help when you have a loved one serving overseas. And don't even get me started on the crap I've seen on "ER". So YES!, I love Reality TV. Mostly because it IS real and they don't try to tell me how to think. For those people who say they never watch reality TV... What do they call Football, Baseball, Basketball, Award Shows, Talk Shows or the News? |
